PLEASE NOTE BEFORE ORDERING: We hold a tight +.001"/-.001" tolerance on this part. Unfortunately, some of the BRN bolts do not. The mounting socket dimensions on the BRN bolts are not consistent, however it is a small percentage of bolts and this product will fit 95% of them. How do we know? Because we've sold over 1500 of these to date (as of 07/2024) with less than a handful returned that did not fit. If you get one and it doesn't fit, please return it at no charge. It is not a defective part, this is a BRN issue. Please do not try to modify it, please do not go online blasting A3 Industries, as this is not an A3 Industries quality control issue, it is variance in the BRN bolts.

The BRN-180 line of bufferless upper receivers was designed to mimic the original AR-180/AR-18 with it's right-side offset and reciprocating charging handle. While some may appreciate the period-correct look and function of the charging handle, a lot of people prefer a more modern option. A3 Industries has come up with various options to meet this demand.
If you don't mind a reciprocating charging handle but just prefer a nicer handle to grab, we have 2 options available to suit your needs. These are simple 10 minute upgrades.
For those that want a more modern upgrade, we also have a non-reciprocating version of the handle. This unique upgrade features a forward mounted guide rail and handle that does not move with the bolt. Simply replace your charging handle with our steel bolt adapter, mount the guide to your rail, and install your handle. The entire upgrade can be done in 15 minutes.
The high-tolerance bolt adapters are manufactured from 4140 steel. Only the low-profile adapter reciprocates with the bolt. The charging handle itself remains on the guide and stays latched via a tensioned ball detent. All components machined from 7075 aluminum and hard anodized. Your choice of grooved round handle, or finger-notch handle.
Everything was great from the time I ordered until I got my product. I was completely satisfied with the fit and quality of the product. The only reason I leave 4 instead of 5 stars is because my charging handle showed up with a large scratch in the finish. Not a big deal, but I prefer to put the scratches on myself. Otherwise perfect product.

This is a well made product that feels good to use, but keep in mind that the original charging handle also functions as a brass deflector so you're going to have brass banging the side of your receiver.
This is by far better than the original version that comes stock
The handle dropped right in. So good in fact that I thought I was installing it wrong. The handle makes the rifle feel complete compared to stock.

The charging handle is perfect. Not too big and not too small. Does not rotate, and the rings keep your finger locked in. Great product!!!!
Even with the negative reviews that are on here I rolled the dice and was pleasantly surprised how nicely this handle fit my gun. It slid into the bolt carrier and had I little wiggle to it less than the stock part.
This was a quality upgrade to my BRN-180 in both function and aesthetics. Solid build and good grip.
I like it a lot more than the original BRN180SH handle. Mine fits perfectly with almost no wiggle. I wouldn’t mind if it was slightly shorter; (it sticks out a little more than a standard AK handle, for example) but I’m happy with it.
Similar to the few negative posts on this site, the charging handle is too large, or “off” just enough to get stuck. Thankfully I did not force it into the bolt, as some others have done. Guess I got one of the lemons…

Does not fit. Also had to really work to get it out with a pair of vice grips.

Really awesome product. I hope there are plans for more development on the non reciprocating BRN charging handle. I would like to see something that inspires more confidence than a flathead screw for the detent. My concern is that it will eventually back out over time with recoil and hard use. Overall I would recommend this product. It is more comfortable, easier and faster to manipulate the action.
Fits nicely without the wiggle of the original.
The fitment is off on this thing, the lug is a semi circle instead of a full circle like the Brownell and the key is double the length and a bit thicker.
I thought it would fit snuggly so I coerced it a bit into the bcg, then it got completely stuck.. The bolt would not go forward and the handle would not release from the bcg. I had to use a vice, pliers and a punch with a hammer to get this thing free out of my bcg. The handle is completely ruined now, not that it matters since it doesn't even fit. I even tried removing material from the lug to see if it would fit, still off. Threw it in the trash, do not recommend.
Does not fit even after filing.... actually would takemilling to fit. I have sent email to A3 and have yet to recive a responce

My upper would stovepipe every 3-5 rounds because the spent casings were being deflected back into the ejection port by the stock charging handle. Replaced with A3's handle and ZERO malfunctions after 200 rounds.

This is the first upgrade that I have made to my BRN-180 and I love it. I'm sure that the bent charging handle had a purpose, but the straight one works for me.
The fit/form/finish/function is great, better than expected. I really like what a3t is doing.
